Registration will open in the picnic pavilion behind the Wilkes Family YMCA at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24th, 2005. The ride rolls at 9:00 a.m. No need to pre-register: you can register the morning of the ride.
Park on the runway of the old airport, conveniently located adjacent to the picnic pavilion.
Two rest stops will be provided, staffed by local Special Olympics volunteers. One is located at Whippoorwill Academy, 10.1 miles from the start. The other is located at Fort Defiance, 20.4 miles from the start. Riders on the 50 mile route will pass the rest stops again at miles 29.4 and 39.7.
Two SAG vehicles will patrol the ride route to offer assistance as needed.
$20 registration fee includes rest stops, on-the-road support and a post-ride picnic. Please make checks payable to "BMCC".
Hot showers will be available at the YMCA after the ride.
Admission to Whippoorwill Academy, including the restored 19th century school house, Daniel Boone cabin replica, art gallery and Tom Dula museum, is free.
Admission to General William Lenoir's restored home at Fort Defiance is $5.
All riders participating in the Rollin' Round the River Ride are required to wear ANSI/Snell approved bicycle helmets and observe all applicable traffic laws.
